Last Day Walking - Our Camino Journey Ends
Our last day was a tough one in many respects. We knew it would be a long walk but then Dianne started feeling poorly because of a common head cold which I passed to her a few days ago. It’s tough to walk when you have a headache and a stuffed head with cough. We had the first 6 miles pretty well but then she really started feeling worse and we ended on the side of the road in nowhere’s land a long way from anything. We tried to call for a taxi but they only come to a place with an address and there was nothing out there.
We are lunch and took a break and Dianne started feeling better. We decided to keep going and marched forward. Our pace
Was slower but we had a goal - to get to the nearest bar that could us a taxi. Our final distance for day was 11.7 miles and the bar just happened to be in the suburb of Siena. We sat for awhile sipping Diet Coke and talking about our journey.
Each Camino is different and this one was special because of the scenery of Tuscany. The views kept getting better and better at each turn. The fields and valleys stretching before us are hard to describe. The cities are ancient with an unbelievable history. Our in the country we went back ancient ruins of battles 600 or more years ago which shaped history.
All the Caminos have these tiny villages you walk thru and each one is special. The peoples families have been there for generations and the tiny chapels were build generations ago but still kept in great shape. You can’t see those things from a car - you have to walk.
We got to Siena and collapsed into our hotel room. We build two piles of dirty clothes to be ready for this morning. We ate a quick dinner downstairs in our hotel the to bed.
This morning we did NOT have to get up and pack our bags before 8. Dianne stayed at the hotel and Jack marched and got the laundry done. So nice to have clean clothes.
We went out and toured a little bit of Siena and got our Compastella passports stamped at the Duomo. We went to the piazza del Campo which is where run the horse races. We grabbed a table for lunch and we ended 2 hours watching a Bollywood movie (indie) being filmed right next to us. It was so much fun.
Then back to the hotel for a nap before meeting our friends Sandy and Jim for pizza. Tomorrow we train to Cinque Terra for the part of our Italy trip.

Tough beautiful day with a good ending. Have enjoyed all your Tuscany photo’s and reading about your walk. Have the best time with Jim & Sandy. The Clinique Terre is very special. Especially to explore with wonderful friends.
