Nice day Before We Start Walking

We had a nice day as we got ready to start walking tomorrow.  We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and then headed out to see more of Lucca.  We both had been here before so knew many of the places.  We mainly wanted to see some highlights and get in some nice walks before our kickoff tomorrow

The Cathedrale was a highlight where our Camino passports got stamped and they let us in for free!  It was a beautiful church with stained glass and a painted ceiling:  Some of the paintings date back to the 1400s but are still in great shape.

We stopped at a cafe for a break and watched the locals and the tourists stream by.  Lucca is a walled city and most streets don’t allow cars - but the maintenance vehicles still can run up and down.  I’m getting used to cappuccino every day instead of my mochas but they are good!

We walked the outer wall and stopped at a display that showed the city from 80 AD until now.  It was surrounded by a simple stone wall till the 1500/ when they large earth works were added to protect it from attack.  It was never successfully taken.

Lunch was at a wonderful place close to it hotel.  We had caprese and ravioli with spinach and both were excellent.  We added half a liter of white wine which was also very good.  We sat next to some Canadians and talked about our trips.  They were almost done and we are just starting.

We went back to the hotel for a break.  We stayed off our feet since tomorrow will be more than 15 miles and temps up to 83.  Luckily no rain until Thursday.

We

Spent some time loading up our packs and moving stuff around.  Hopefully our suitcases aren’t too heavy but we will see - there is a limit of 44 pounds per bag and we will probably be slightly over.

Dinner was back at the same restaurant with caprese  and a different ravioli - even better than lunch.  We walked down to get. Diet Coke and banana for tomorrow then back to the hotel to get ready for tomorrow.

Should be fun!
