Pretty Country
Today we walked from Colle di Val d’Elsa to Monteriggioni which is a walled city high on a hill. The walk started next to the Elsa river which was spectacular. We crossed is several times using ropes and big rocks set in the river - very fun. The water itself had an unusual color - sulfur color - gray turquoise- and smelled of sulfur. The rover cascaded down many drops with beautiful pool followed by waterfalls. We walked up river which was near.
Next we headed out over the countryside. We didn’t go up very high so not so many views as yesterday. The tracks were nice and quiet which made for a great day.
At the end we had the tough climb of 300 feet to the city walls.
Last night our dinner was in the lower level of our hotel and it was very good as usual. When you are on the camino you get what is called ‘half board’ which used used to refer to the size of the board placed in front of you for dinner. Now it simply means a limited menu. I had carpaccio for my main course - thinly sliced raw beef topped with sliced cheese. What a wonderful meal which you can’t get in the US since the beef is raw.
The funnest pat of the day was getting an email from Caminoways. Our luggage was overweight and they finally caught us. We had to rush around and find a small roller bag at a thrift shop. We loaded in 12 pounds of stuff and now all are bags are under 44 pounds each.

You two are having so much fun! You are proving that the best way to see a new country is to “walk” it. Now Diane can buy more souvenirs with your new suitcase
