Hiking to the Roman Ruins
Jack managed not to fall off the trail!! We repeated the trail from Saturday but this time we finished the hike. We went out to the end of the isthmus where there were old Roman ruins. It was a fun hike and one of the highlights was we saw the workers harvesting olives. We got tones then run the ‘shaking machine’ that is hooked up to a compressor. In the old days they used sticks to beat the limbs to get the olives to fall. This new machine shakes the limbs and replaces many workers with just one. They still need to gather the olives using nets but the hard work is replaced by a machine. Basically a dozen men are now three men.
The walk itself was on good trails and the final mile was down a very nice old stone pathway to the ocean. Many people were coming back wet from their swim but we decided not to swim.
We ate lunch at the Roman ruins and then hiked to the ‘Lost Bar’ which was out on the coast above a bay. There was a nice bar with dirt cokes and drinks and food! We met a couple from Monterey that was wanted to talk about our Camino adventures. The husband was flying next to Nepal to hike to Everest base camp at 18,000 feet. He’s not sure if it will be open since the weather has been so bad there. It was fun to talk about the hikes we have both done!
The back to Sorrento. We had a lovely dinner at Bistro 86 which was recommended by the Airbnb people. Jack finally had shrimp which was done perfectly. We finished with a wonderful dessert then back to the Airbnb for sleeps!
