Shipping Home Presents and A Beautiful Lunch
We have been accumulating a large number of gifts over the last few weeks so we decided to put together a number of items and ship them home. This also makes our existing bags a lot lighter which is always a good thing. We added some shoes we didn’t need to help cut down on weight. The local Mail Boxes Etc store was happy to box them all up and will ship them home. The final weight was 15 kilos or 33 pounds. Definitely a good idea. The cost was actually cheaper than buying a third bag and paying second bag charges of $100 for each of our two segments home. And it helps that we are not lugging another loaded suitcase.
After we sent off our box we decided to have lunch at the best local ‘see and be seen’ spot in all of Sorrento. This is a beautiful patio on the main Tasso square where the traffic and tourists and local all converge. The tables are covered in yellow table cloths and the waiters are in nice white shirts with black vests. It caters to anyone but does have a lot of English speaking staff.
We sat down and ordered alot of wine and decided to have an old fashioned cheeseburger with fries - very NOT Italian. The wine was great and we decided to have a game to pick out the best and worst dressed people walking by. We assumed we would see many well dressed people but for the next hour we saw a lot of very sad looking people go by. No one stood out and finally we gave up on the game.
The cheeseburger was delicious and so were the fries. Perfectly prepared. We finished the wine and headed back to the apartment. We took an afternoon break to catch up on news and just relax.
Around 5 we headed out to the ‘Bastion’ which is an ancient corner of the city with high walls and fortifications. It was neat to climb up and look down on the walls which protected the city for hundreds of years. This area was fought over since Roman times.
We took our nightly stroll down the wide boulevard nearby. You see all kinds of people both foreign and local. We took some time to visit the beautiful church on the boulevard. They were preparing for 6 o’clock Mass. We went back hike for a short break then headed out to the Buffalo restaurant. Our friend Robb ate there the night before and had the pork ribs. We chose them as well and they were outstanding. Basically melt in your mouth. We had a nice bottle of Nero da Tasso wine from the local de Angelis winery where we tasted a few days ago. Very good combination.
Then home and to bed. It had been a very nice day,
